It is not necessary to meditate for the full 30 minutes, especially if you are a beginner. Any time spent meditating is helpful. You may begin with just 5-10 minutes a day and then gradually increase that amount as you become more comfortable and begin to feel the wonderful benefits of meditation. The University of Massachusetts Medical School started a mindfulness meditation program for stress reduction that was so popular, it is now used in over 200 hospitals? Many of the thousands of people who use the program every year have chronic pain and serious illness. The National Institute of Health did a study that confirmed that meditation is one of the alternative and complementary therapies that is helpful for faster healing and pain reduction? A recent study sponsored by the American Heart Association showed one form of meditation reduced the incidence of heart attack and stroke by almost 50%. It also lowered blood pressure and reduced the incidence of psychological stress. The study found: • A 47 percent reduction in the combination of death, heart attacks, and strokes in the participants • Clinically significant (5 mm Hg average) reduction in blood pressure associated with decrease in clinical events • Significant reductions in psychological stress in the high-stress subgroup The intention of this website is not to provide medical advice. No medical advice is offered or implied. While mediation has been proven to be an effective complementary therapy it is not a replacement for good medical care. Therefore, if you have any concerns about your physical condition, please discuss them with your doctor. |
